Why Regular Fish Tank Cleaning Services are Vital for Your Old Bethpage, NY Home Aquarium

Fish are wonderful pets. Unlike furry and feathered friends, they don’t shed, nor do they require grooming. They also don’t need expensive and time-consuming visits to the vet on a regular basis. In fact, one of the primary reasons why you decided on fish as a pet over other types of animals is perhaps because of the minimal maintenance that they require.

While it’s true that fish are easier to maintain than dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, and other types of pets, that doesn’t mean that they are completely maintenance-free. In addition to feeding your aquatic friends, and checking the filtration system and water levels of your home aquarium, the fish tank that your marine animals reside in needs to be cleaned, too. If you recently installed a residential aquarium, there’s no doubt that you’re enjoying the beauty and tranquility that it has brought into your Nassau County home. To ensure that you can continue to enjoy the benefits that owning an aquatic display provides, investing in fish tank cleaning services is a must.

Keep on reading to find out why hiring a Old Bethpage, NY fish tank cleaning service to maintain your Nassau County home aquarium is important.

To Prevent Nitrate and Phosphate Buildup

Aquariums are closed systems, which means that they are susceptible to nitrate and phosphate buildup. The tank cycles, which means that the ammonia the fish produce is broken down into nitrite and then nitrate; therefore, the nitrate levels increase. The same is true for phosphates. Fortunately, both substances aren’t toxic to fish, as long as they’re at reasonable levels; however, if the water isn’t changed, nitrate and phosphate levels can buildup to unsafe levels. If this happens, the concentration of these substances can become toxic to fish.

To prevent issues, checking the nitrate and phosphate levels on a regular basis is essential. When tests reveal that the concentrations are approaching dangerous levels, contact a Old Bethpage, NY fish tank cleaning service. Experienced professionals will clean the water in your Nassau County home aquarium, restoring the balance of nitrates and phosphates.

To Avoid Algae Blooms

Nitrates and phosphates are the ideal food source for living plants, so if your Nassau County home aquarium features live marine flora, these substances are beneficial. On the downside, however, marine plants aren’t the only flora that feeds on phosphates and sulfates; algae does, too. If the concentration increases too much, an algae bloom can occur. As algae proliferate, it will build up on the interior walls of your aquarium, as well as the plants, substrate, and decorative elements, and it can even accumulate on components of the filtration system.

If an algae bloom does occur, as you can imagine, the aesthetics of your tank will suffer. Not only that, but it will also become increasingly difficult to see the vibrantly colored and uniquely patterned fish and decorative elements in the aquarium. To prevent algae growth and to ensure your aquatic display remains visually appealing, hiring a Old Bethpage, NY fish tank cleaning service is imperative. By changing and balancing the water levels, as well as cleaning the filtration system, substrate, and decorative items, trained professionals will help to keep algae growth at bay.

To Maintain the Health and Extend the Lifespan of Your Aquatic Pets

Finally, cleaning your Nassau County home aquarium is vital for the health of your aquatic pets. When the tank is properly cleaned and maintained, all of the elements within the underwater ecosystem – the marine flora and fauna, as well as the bacteria – are balanced. In order for your fish to grow, the water needs to be properly balanced and the filtration system must function properly; otherwise, their health will suffer, and there’s a good chance that their life expectancy will be reduced.

Keeping your aquarium clean will ensure the health and longevity of your marine pets. A professional Old Bethpage, NY fish tank cleaning service will change the water and the filters, and will clean the substrate, decorative elements, and the interior surfaces of the tank. Harmful toxins that could impact the health and cut the lifespan of your fish short will be eliminated when your tank is properly and thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis. In other words, your fish will live longer when their habitat is clean.

Old Bethpage is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located on Long Island in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP was 5,523 at the 2010 census. It is served by the Old Bethpage Post Office, ZIP code 11804.

In 1695, Thomas Powell bought about 10,000 acres (40 km2) from local Indian tribes, including the Marsapeque, Matinecoc, and Sacatogue, for 140 English pounds. This land, which includes present day Bethpage, East Farmingdale, Farmingdale, Old Bethpage, Plainedge, Plainview, South Farmingdale, and part of Melville, is known as the Bethpage Purchase and is approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) east to west and 5 miles (8.0 km) north to south.

Powell called his land Bethphage, because it was situated between two other places on Long Island, Jericho and Jerusalem, just as the biblical town of Bethphage (meaning “house of figs”) was situated between Jericho and Jerusalem. Today, the Long Island place formerly called Jerusalem is known as Wantagh and Island Trees, while the placename Jericho is unaltered. Over time, Bethpage was spelled without the second “H”. Powell’s 14 children split up his purchase and it evolved into several farming communities, and the one in this mostly central part of the purchase retained the name “Bethpage”.

A railroad spur completed in 1873, known as the Bethpage Branch of the Central Railroad of Long Island, ran to a brickworks plant which had opened on what is now Battle Row and Bethpage-Sweet Hollow Road in the 1860s. The railway was built to transport bricks for the construction of Alexander Stewart’s Garden City. For a few years, regularly scheduled passenger traffic also appeared in timetables, with the station being called Bethpage. The line was abandoned in 1942. Remnants of a locomotive turntable can be found in the woods of Bethpage State Park on the east side of Round Swamp Road. The brickyard continued operations under different owners until 1981, with different sections known variously as Bethpage Brickworks, Queens County Brick Manufacturing Company, Post Brick Company, and (after Nassau County split from Queens County in 1899) Nassau Brick Company. The pitted terrain at the brickworks was used in investigations by Grumman for digital mapping of Earth.

FAQ

The cost of a display aquarium varies depending on the material you choose, the size and shape of the tank, and more. A wide range of costs is about $750 to $7000. Costs increase with the size and height of the tank.

The best tanks are always large rectangular ones. Fish will live longer and healthier lives if they have plenty of water to swim in.

The cost of manufacturing and transporting acrylic is less than that of glass. However, a glass aquarium is still cheaper than an acrylic aquarium. The most popular aquariums are made of glass.

Most fish require room to move laterally (side-to-side), which is highly restricted by tall, narrow tanks. A tall aquarium leaves very little open space when plants and other decorations are added. Therefore, longer tanks are much better than taller tanks.
