The type that will best suit your needs depends on several factors, such as your personal preferences, your goals, and your budget.
To help you decide which option to choose for your Nassau County business, let’s take a look at some of the different kinds of aquariums.
The easiest and most basic type of aquarium, in terms of installation and maintenance, is the cold water tank. If you’re a novice, this is a great choice, as it doesn’t require special equipment and it’s easy to care for. It’s also the most affordably priced. While it may be the most basic type of aquarium, a cold water tank can be quite lively and interesting; especially when it’s designed and installed by a reputable and experienced Oyster Bay, NY custom fish tank specialist.
Tanks of varying shapes, sizes, and styles can be used, and there are an assortment of decorative elements that can be incorporated. Additionally, there are many different species of freshwater flora and fauna. Barbs, tetra, hillstream loach, danio, Paradise fish, and even certain varieties of shrimp, as well as goldfish, of course, are just some of the different types of fish that will make a cold water tank come alive.

Tropical freshwater aquariums are among the most popular types of aquatic displays. Though it is a bit more involved and costly to set up, and they do require more care than cold water tanks, a tropical freshwater marine habitat is still a great option.
This type of aquarium contains warmer water, and as such, it does require special equipment, such as heaters to achieve the proper temperature for the aquatic life that lives in this habitat. Additionally, it does require a bit more care in order to maintain the temperature, as well as the pH levels. Still, a tropical freshwater aquarium is relatively easy to maintain on your own, or, if your Oyster Bay, NY custom fish tank designer offers maintenance plans, you could arrange for them to take care of the tank for you.
If you’d like a more extravagant aquarium for your Nassau County business, a saltwater (also known as a “marine”) tank might be the right choice for you. As the name suggests, these tanks are designed to support marine animals that would live in the ocean. There are several different types of saltwater aquariums, including:
While saltwater tanks are stunning, the setup and upkeep is complex, and they tend to be more costly to install and maintain. With that said, however, if your Oyster Bay, NY custom fish tank contractor offers maintenance services, you can arrange to have them care for the tank for you.
The Town of Oyster Bay is the easternmost of the three towns which make up Nassau County, New York, in the United States. Part of the New York metropolitan area, it is the only town in Nassau County to extend from the North Shore to the South Shore of Long Island. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 293,214.
Succeeding cultures of indigenous peoples had lived in the area for thousands of years. At the time of European contact, the Lenape (Delaware) nation inhabited western Long Island. By 1600 the band inhabiting the local area was called the Matinecock after their location, but they were Lenape people.
Following European colonization, the area became part of the colony of New Netherland. In 1639, the Dutch West India Company made its first purchase of land on Long Island from the local Native Americans. The English also had colonies on Long Island at this time. The Dutch did not dispute English claims to what is now Suffolk County, but when settlers from New England arrived in (present-day) Oyster Bay in 1640, they were soon arrested as part of a boundary dispute. In 1643, Englishmen purchased land in the present-day town of Hempstead from the Indians that included land purchased by the Dutch in 1639. Nevertheless, in 1644, the Dutch director granted a patent for Hempstead to the English.
The Dutch also granted other English settlements in Flushing, Newtown, and Jamaica. In 1650, the Treaty of Hartford established a boundary between Dutch and English claims at “Oysterbay”, by which the Dutch meant present-day Cold Spring Harbor (to the east) and the English meant all of the water connected to present-day Oyster Bay Harbor. Meanwhile, the government of England came under the control of Oliver Cromwell as a republic, and smugglers took advantage of the unresolved border dispute. In 1653, English settlers made their first purchase of land in Oyster Bay from the local Matinecock tribe, though there were already some rogue English settlements there. For this purchase, the English settlers paid to the Native American Moheness (aka Assiapum), “six kettles, six fathoms of wampum, six hoes, six hatchets, three pairs of stockings, thirty awl-blades or muxes, twenty knives, three shirts and as much Peague as will amount to four pounds sterling.” The monarchy was restored in England in 1660, and in 1664 King Charles gave Long Island (and much else) to his brother James, leading to the Dutch relinquishing control of all of New Amsterdam.Learn more about Oyster Bay.
The cost of a display aquarium varies depending on the material you choose, the size and shape of the tank, and more. A wide range of costs is about $750 to $7000. Costs increase with the size and height of the tank.
The best tanks are always large rectangular ones. Fish will live longer and healthier lives if they have plenty of water to swim in.
The cost of manufacturing and transporting acrylic is less than that of glass. However, a glass aquarium is still cheaper than an acrylic aquarium. The most popular aquariums are made of glass.
Most fish require room to move laterally (side-to-side), which is highly restricted by tall, narrow tanks. A tall aquarium leaves very little open space when plants and other decorations are added. Therefore, longer tanks are much better than taller tanks.
