Types of Custom Fish Tanks to Consider for Your Manhasset Hills, NY Business

Are you thinking about installing a custom fish tank in your Nassau County business? If so, there are several factors that have to be considered and decisions that need to be made, and perhaps the most important of all is the type of aquarium you’d like to install. There are several different types of marine habitats to consider that a reputable and experienced Manhasset Hills, NY custom fish tank specialist will be able to design, install, and maintain. The type that will best suit your needs depends on several factors, such as your personal preferences, your goals, and your budget.

To help you decide which option to choose for your Nassau County business, let’s take a look at some of the different kinds of aquariums.

Cold Water

The easiest and most basic type of aquarium, in terms of installation and maintenance, is the cold water tank. If you’re a novice, this is a great choice, as it doesn’t require special equipment and it’s easy to care for. It’s also the most affordably priced. While it may be the most basic type of aquarium, a cold water tank can be quite lively and interesting; especially when it’s designed and installed by a reputable and experienced Manhasset Hills, NY custom fish tank specialist.

Tanks of varying shapes, sizes, and styles can be used, and there are an assortment of decorative elements that can be incorporated. Additionally, there are many different species of freshwater flora and fauna. Barbs, tetra, hillstream loach, danio, Paradise fish, and even certain varieties of shrimp, as well as goldfish, of course, are just some of the different types of fish that will make a cold water tank come alive.

Tropical Freshwater

Tropical freshwater aquariums are among the most popular types of aquatic displays. Though it is a bit more involved and costly to set up, and they do require more care than cold water tanks, a tropical freshwater marine habitat is still a great option.

This type of aquarium contains warmer water, and as such, it does require special equipment, such as heaters to achieve the proper temperature for the aquatic life that lives in this habitat. Additionally, it does require a bit more care in order to maintain the temperature, as well as the pH levels. Still, a tropical freshwater aquarium is relatively easy to maintain on your own, or, if your Manhasset Hills, NY custom fish tank designer offers maintenance plans, you could arrange for them to take care of the tank for you.

Saltwater

If you’d like a more extravagant aquarium for your Nassau County business, a saltwater (also known as a “marine”) tank might be the right choice for you. As the name suggests, these tanks are designed to support marine animals that would live in the ocean. There are several different types of saltwater aquariums, including:

  • Fish-only. This aquatic habitat features various types of saltwater fish with base (non-living) rock.
  • Fish only with live rock. This aquarium would house a variety of saltwater species, as well as fragmented pieces of coral reef that have been colonized with saltwater marine life, such as sponges and invertebrates.
  • Coral reef. This custom fish tank is perhaps the most impactful, as it replicates an ocean reef, and features varying species of vibrantly colored fish, soft and hard corals, and invertebrates.
  • Specialty. A specialty saltwater tank will feature specific species of marine life, such as jellyfish, seahorses, and even sharks.

While saltwater tanks are stunning, the setup and upkeep is complex, and they tend to be more costly to install and maintain. With that said, however, if your Manhasset Hills, NY custom fish tank contractor offers maintenance services, you can arrange to have them care for the tank for you.

Manhasset Hills is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 3,592 at the 2010 census. Neighboring communities include Herricks, North Hills, North New Hyde Park, and Lake Success.

By the late 1950s, much of the land in Manhasset Hills had been developed by developers. One of the last major developments to be built was the Cherrywood Homes development, which was built on a 24-acre tract by Barney and Martin Spiegel. The development was built with 88 split-level houses designed by A.H. Salkowitz, and was constructed on one of the last remaining major undeveloped tracts of land available in Manhasset Hills.

In the 1980s and 1990s, roughly 1,000 Manhasset Hills residents attempted to prevent the State of New York from placing a group home in their neighborhood for people with mental disabilities. Many were concerned that their property values would decrease because of the group home’s presence, and attempted to change a law in order to prevent the home from being established. The residents were successful in preventing the group home from being established in their community, and the home was instead established in nearby New Hyde Park.

The Long Island Motor Parkway used to run along the northern border of the hamlet.

FAQ

The cost of a display aquarium varies depending on the material you choose, the size and shape of the tank, and more. A wide range of costs is about $750 to $7000. Costs increase with the size and height of the tank.

The best tanks are always large rectangular ones. Fish will live longer and healthier lives if they have plenty of water to swim in.

The cost of manufacturing and transporting acrylic is less than that of glass. However, a glass aquarium is still cheaper than an acrylic aquarium. The most popular aquariums are made of glass.

Most fish require room to move laterally (side-to-side), which is highly restricted by tall, narrow tanks. A tall aquarium leaves very little open space when plants and other decorations are added. Therefore, longer tanks are much better than taller tanks.
