Yes, a custom aquarium is definitely a worthwhile investment; but, you want to make sure that the design and installation process goes as smoothly as possible, and that the finished product will not only meet your needs, but that it will exceed your expectations. That’s why it’s so important to take the time to inform yourself before design and installation begins. To help ensure the best outcome, here’s a look at some key questions to ask your Levittown, NY custom fish tank contractor.
What type of aquariums do you have experience with?
It’s important to find out what type of aquariums your Levittown, NY custom fish tank professional has experience with. Some contractors claim to do custom work; however, they really just install pre-fabricated designs, and while they may offer a large selection of options to choose from, it isn’t the same as truly custom. You have a specific idea in mind, so you want to make sure that your contractor will be able to bring your creation to life. For example, if you’re interested in creating a wave-shaped or an arch aquatic display, be sure to ask the company if they have experience creating these types of designs.
No matter the type, shape, or style you have in mind, and no matter your budget, Fluid Dynamics International will meet your needs and exceed your expectations. Our commitment to excellence and our more than 7 decades of combined experience are the reasons why we are considered the leading custom fish tank designer in Nassau County. How much will it cost?
A custom aquarium is an investment and prices can vary widely. Several factors influence the cost, including size, shape, type, materials, and labor. With that said, it’s a wise idea to set aside a budget so that you don’t spend more than you can comfortably afford, and ask your contractor how much the design and installation of the aquatic display will cost. A reputable Levittown, NY custom fish tank contractor will charge fair rates, will stay within your parameters, and will provide a detailed, written price estimate.
What is your payment process?
This question ties into the previous question. Contractors can establish their own payment processes, and they can vary from one company to the next. It’s important to inquire about your designer’s payment process so that you’re prepared. A credible Levittown, NY custom fish tank designer will offer several payment options, and may even offer payment plans.
How long do you expect it will take to complete?
Like the price, the amount of time it will take to complete the design and installation of a custom fish tank will vary. Also like the price, the size, type, and style of the aquarium will also influence the timeframe; as will the complexity of the installation, and where you are having the display installed in your Nassau County home. To illustrate, a moderately sized tower tank likely won’t take as long to install as an expansive bow-shaped aquarium installed in a wall.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare?
You’ll also want to find out if there is anything that you will need to do to prepare for your custom fish tank installation. For instance, if there is anything special that you’ll need to do to ready your Nassau County home, you’ll want to know ahead of time so that you can make the necessary arrangements. If you’re prepared in advance, your contractor will be able to start working on the installation right away.
Can I see proof of your insurance?
No matter how experienced a Levittown, NY custom fish tank specialist may be, there’s always a chance that something could go wrong. For example, they could damage your Nassau County property or sustain an injury while they’re installing your aquarium. If something does go wrong, you don’t want to end up footing the bill. That’s why it’s so important that you ask to see proof of insurance, and that you check to confirm that the policies are valid.
Levittown is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. It is located halfway between the villages of Hempstead and Farmingdale. As of the 2010 census, the CDP had a total population of 51,881, making it the most populated CDP in Nassau County and the second most populated CDP on Long Island, behind only Brentwood.
The building firm, Levitt & Sons, headed by Abraham Levitt and his two sons, William and Alfred, built four planned communities called “Levittown”, in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico; the Levittown in New York was the first. Additionally, Levitt & Sons’ designs are featured prominently in the older portion of Buffalo Grove, Illinois; Vernon Hills, Illinois; Willingboro Township, New Jersey; the Belair section of Bowie, Maryland; and the Greenbriar section of Fairfax, Virginia.
The Levitt firm began before World War II, as a builder of custom homes in upper middle-class communities on Long Island. During the war, however, the home building industry languished under a general embargo on private use of scarce raw materials. William “Bill” Levitt served in the Navy in the Seabees – the service’s construction battalions – and developed expertise in the mass-produced building of military housing using uniform and interchangeable parts. He was insistent that a postwar building boom would require similar mass-produced housing, and was able to purchase options on large swaths of onion and potato fields in undeveloped sections of Long Island.
Returning to the firm after war’s end, Bill Levitt persuaded his father and brother to embrace the utilitarian system of construction he had learned in the Navy. With his brother, Alfred, who was an architect, he designed a small one-floor house with an unfinished “expansion attic” that could be rapidly constructed and as rapidly rented to returning GIs and their young families. Levitt & Sons built the community with an eye towards speed, efficiency, and cost-effective construction; these methods led to a production rate of 30 houses a day by July 1948.They used pre-cut lumber and nails shipped from their own factories in Blue Lake, California, and built on concrete slabs, as they had done in a previous planned community in Norfolk, Virginia. This necessitated negotiating a change in the building code, which prior to the building of this community, did not permit concrete slabs. Given the urgent need for housing in the region, the town agreed. Levitt & Sons also controversially utilized non-union contractors in the project, a move which provoked picket lines. On the other hand, they paid their workers very well and offered all kinds of incentives that allowed them to earn extra money, so that they often could earn twice as much a week as elsewhere. The company also cut out middlemen and purchased many items, including lumber and televisions, directly from manufacturers. The building of every house was reduced to 26 steps, with sub-contractors responsible for each step. His mass production of thousands of houses at virtually the same time allowed Levitt to sell them, with kitchens fully stocked with modern appliances, and a television in the living room, for as little as $8,000 each (equal to $92,721 today), which, with the G.I. Bill and federal housing subsidies, reduced the up-front cost of a house to many buyers to around $400 (equal to $4,636 today).Learn more about Levittown.
The cost of a display aquarium varies depending on the material you choose, the size and shape of the tank, and more. A wide range of costs is about $750 to $7000. Costs increase with the size and height of the tank.
The best tanks are always large rectangular ones. Fish will live longer and healthier lives if they have plenty of water to swim in.
The cost of manufacturing and transporting acrylic is less than that of glass. However, a glass aquarium is still cheaper than an acrylic aquarium. The most popular aquariums are made of glass.
Most fish require room to move laterally (side-to-side), which is highly restricted by tall, narrow tanks. A tall aquarium leaves very little open space when plants and other decorations are added. Therefore, longer tanks are much better than taller tanks.
