Your home is your castle. In addition to providing shelter from the elements, it’s the space where you and your loved ones relax, unwind, and escape the stresses of day-to-day life. A custom aquarium is one of the most effective ways to achieve these goals.
Freshwater and saltwater marine habitats aren’t just mesmerizing; they’re also known to provide a wealth of physical and mental health benefits. The following are some of the most notable benefits that an aquatic environment can provide, and why having a Roslyn Estates, NY custom aquarium designer install one in your Nassau County home would be a worthwhile investment for you and your family.
Lower Stress Levels
Numerous scientific studies have found that exposure to aquatic environments can reduce stress levels. This effect is largely due to the natural calming effect that fish tanks provide. The sound of the bubbling water and the sight of the diverse, colorful, and uniquely patterned fish and plants moving back and forth promote feelings of relaxation that can reduce stress levels. In fact, after just a few minutes of being in the same room as an aquarium and observing the life within it, you’re bound to feel a sense of calmness sweep over you. By having a Roslyn Estates, NY custom aquarium contractor design and install a one-of-a-kind habitat for you, you and your loved ones will be sure to feel less stressed when you’re at home.
Reduced Blood Pressure and Heart Rate
If you or anyone in your family suffers from high blood pressure or an elevated heart rate, having a marine habitat installed in your Nassau County home may be able to help. A study performed by an expert at the National Marine Aquarium found that watching fish swim can dramatically lower blood pressure and heart rate; in fact, gazing at a fish tank that contains only water has been shown to reduce heart rate levels by about 3%, while observing an aquarium that’s alive with fish can lower heart rate by levels by up to 7%.
Have you ever wondered why fish tanks are common features in medical and dental practices? If so, wonder no more! Aquatic displays have been proven to elicit therapeutic effects, especially in environments or situations where stress and/or anxiety levels tend to be heightened (such a doctor’s or a dentist’s office). Simply watching the marine flora and fauna can instantly calm feelings of anxiousness. If you or anyone in your family suffers from anxiety or depression, having a Roslyn Estates, NY custom aquarium specialist design and install a display for your Nassau County home could be immensely beneficial.

Do you have a difficult time falling asleep and/or staying asleep? If so, you should consider bringing a fish tank into the bedroom. Seeing the plants and animals swim and/or sway about in the crystal clear water will create an instant sense of calmness and make you feel more relaxed. The sound of the bubbling water can be incredibly soothing, as well. At the end of a long, crazy day, having an aquatic display in the bedroom can help you decompress and quiet your mind so that you can drift off to sleep. Not only will being within close proximity to the tank help you fall asleep easier, but it will also help you stay asleep longer. If you want to enjoy deeper and more restorative sleep, discuss having a Roslyn Estates, NY custom aquarium designer create and install a display for your bedroom.
Yet another health benefit that has been linked to owning a fish tank is that it can promote a happier, more balanced, and pleasant mood. The fact that being exposed to aquatic displays can reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure and heart rate, provide therapeutic benefits, and prompt deeper, more restorative sleep means that you can also enjoy a more upbeat mood, a more positive outlook, and a sunnier disposition. When you have a Roslyn Estates, NY custom aquarium designer create and install a one-of-a-kind tank for your Nassau County home, you’ll find it hard not to be in a good mood whenever you gaze into it, walk past it, or even when you’re just in the same room as the tank.
Roslyn Estates is a village in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. It is considered part of the Greater Roslyn area, which is anchored by the Incorporated Village of Roslyn. The population was 1,251 at the 2010 census.
Roslyn Estates was first developed in the early 20th Century (circa 1908) by Dean Alvord, who also developed Prospect Park South in Brooklyn and Belle Terre in Port Jefferson. It was nicknamed “The Eden of Long Island” when originally developed, due to the community’s design and setting.
In 1931, residents decided to try incorporating Roslyn Estates as a village, due to the fact that the original deed restrictions were set to expire around that time. Their efforts to incorporate were successful, and the Village of Roslyn Estates was incorporated on June 8, 1931.
In 1974, Mayor Robert D. Zucker attempted to have the boundaries of the Manhasset Park District redrawn to include the village after the district added an additional 260 parking spaces to the commuter parking fields at the Manhasset Long Island Rail Road station. Zucker stated that many Roslyn Estates residents preferred the Manhasset station over the closer Roslyn station due to the fact that service to/from Pennsylvania Station on the Port Washington Branch is direct, whereas a change at Jamaica is required on the Oyster Bay Branch. By having the district boundaries redrawn to include the village, Roslyn Estates residents would have the ability to be guaranteed a parking space at the Manhasset station for commuting to/from Manhattan. Officials from both North Hempstead and the Manhasset Park District, as well as Manhasset residents lamented the idea, given that Roslyn Estates is not part of the Greater Manhasset area, and felt that the needs of Greater Manhasset should be paramount for the Manhasset Park District. The proposal was ultimately denied.Learn more about Roslyn Estates.
The cost of a display aquarium varies depending on the material you choose, the size and shape of the tank, and more. A wide range of costs is about $750 to $7000. Costs increase with the size and height of the tank.
The best tanks are always large rectangular ones. Fish will live longer and healthier lives if they have plenty of water to swim in.
The cost of manufacturing and transporting acrylic is less than that of glass. However, a glass aquarium is still cheaper than an acrylic aquarium. The most popular aquariums are made of glass.
Most fish require room to move laterally (side-to-side), which is highly restricted by tall, narrow tanks. A tall aquarium leaves very little open space when plants and other decorations are added. Therefore, longer tanks are much better than taller tanks.
