Your Nassau County home should be a place where you feel comfortable and relaxed; a space where you can really relax, unwind, and escape the stresses of daily life. As such, bringing in elements that create balance, calmness, and tranquility just makes sense. Of all the different features that can be incorporated into the design of your home to promote a sense of peacefulness and serenity, a custom aquarium is, by far, one of the most effective. This isn’t just a matter of opinion; it’s actually a scientific fact. Studies have found that aquariums can improve physical and mental well-being, as they can lower stress levels, reduce heart rate and blood pressure levels, create calming effects, and can even improve sleep patterns. In addition to the overall health benefits that fish tanks can provide, they’re just aesthetically pleasing and can enhance the visual appeal of a home’s interior.
Whether you want to create a more soothing environment, you’d like to experience the numerous benefits that an aquatic environment can provide, or you just like marine flora and fauna, if you want to get the most out of the living habitat, rather than going for a pre-fabricated set-up, hiring a Floral Park, NY custom aquarium company to design and install a tank for you is highly recommended. In order to maximize the benefits and ensure the best possible outcome, however, there are some key factors that should be taken into consideration before designing and installing a custom marine habitat. Below, you’ll find an overview of these factors.
Maintenance
One of the first and most crucial factors that should be taken into consideration before installing a custom aquarium in your Nassau County home is maintenance. Underwater habitats are living environments and routine and proper maintenance is essential, not only to ensure the set-up continues to look good but more importantly, to ensure the health and safety of the aquatic animals and plants that reside within it. It’s important to note, however, that maintaining a professionally designed marine display can be complex and requires a lot of time, effort, and energy. For this reason, taking maintenance requirements into consideration before you have your tank designed and installed is highly recommended.
Consider how you’re going to upkeep the display; for example, are you going to do it yourself, or do you intend on hiring a professional? If you intend on doing it on your own, consider how often and what type of maintenance needs to be done, and what the process entails. If you are planning on professional maintenance, consider working with a Floral Park, NY custom aquarium designer and installer that also specializes in maintenance that you can hire to perform upkeep.

Freshwater or Saltwater
It’s also important to consider whether you want a freshwater or saltwater custom aquarium. There are distinct differences between saltwater and freshwater marine habitats, the most obvious one being the type of water; the former uses a saltwater system while the latter employs a freshwater system. Another obvious difference is the type of aquatic animals and plants. Saltwater fauna and flora is much more exotic in that there’s more variety, it’s more colorful, and it’s more unique; however, on the downside, the flora and fauna tend to be more delicate and both the living organisms, the water, and the tank itself requires more care. Freshwater animal and plant life, though it can also be unique and beautiful, it usually isn’t as vibrant and diverse; however, freshwater species are hardier and requires much less maintenance than their saltwater counterparts.
It’s important to consider what type of tank you would like, as the decision will directly influence the level of maintenance the setup requires, as well as the cost of the design, installation, and maintenance. While the idea of having a custom tank that resembles a mini Great Barrier Reef in your Nassau County home might be appealing, if you want to keep costs down and want a system that’s less demanding, a saltwater tank might be a better choice.
The Cost
Another key factor to consider before having a custom aquarium designed and installed in your Nassau County home is the cost. There are several elements that will impact the cost, such as the type (saltwater or freshwater) of the tank, the size and shape of the tank, the type and the amount of marine animals and plants, and the materials that the tank will be made of (glass or acrylic).
As mentioned above, saltwater tanks tend to be more expensive, not only because of the setup but also because of the maintenance requirements. Additionally, acrylic tanks tend to be more costly than glass tanks, as do larger and more unique designs that are more demanding in terms of care. Custom marine habitats can vary widely in price. It’s important to set a budget before you begin the process so that you can avoid spending more than you can comfortably afford. A reputable Floral Park, NY custom aquarium company will work within your parameters and will deliver a quality product that speaks to your taste and suits your needs without going over your budget.
Floral Park is an incorporated village in Nassau County, New York, United States, on Long Island. The population as of the US Census of 2010 is 15,863.
The area that is now Floral Park once marked the western edge of the great Hempstead Plains, and by some reports was initially known as Plainfield. Farms and tiny villages dominated the area through the 1870s when the development of the Long Island Rail Road Hempstead Branch and Jericho Turnpike cut through the area. Hinsdale had more than two dozen flower farms after the Civil War. The present-day village of Floral Park was once called East Hinsdale.
In 1874 John Lewis Childs arrived in the area to work for C.L. Allen as a seed seller. After building his own seed and bulb business and starting America’s first seed catalog business, Childs bought a great deal of land in the area. To promote his own business and the local horticultural industry, Childs named the local streets after flowers and renamed the area Floral Park. The expansion of the Floral Park Post Office and nearby village businesses are attributed solely to the success of Childs’ business. When the local Post Office took the name Floral Park, the Long Island Rail Road followed suit by changing the name of the East Hinsdale station to Floral Park in 1888. Formerly part of Queens, Floral Park became part of the new county of Nassau in 1899, and it was incorporated as a village in 1908. Childs served as its first president starting that year.
In 1903 the village boasted more than 200 acres (0.81 km2) of Childs’ flower beds. The massive volume of his mail order business grew the local post office to such an extent that it drew comparisons with the post offices of Chicago, Baltimore, and Boston.
Learn more about Floral Park. The cost of a display aquarium varies depending on the material you choose, the size and shape of the tank, and more. A wide range of costs is about $750 to $7000. Costs increase with the size and height of the tank.
The best tanks are always large rectangular ones. Fish will live longer and healthier lives if they have plenty of water to swim in.
The cost of manufacturing and transporting acrylic is less than that of glass. However, a glass aquarium is still cheaper than an acrylic aquarium. The most popular aquariums are made of glass.
Most fish require room to move laterally (side-to-side), which is highly restricted by tall, narrow tanks. A tall aquarium leaves very little open space when plants and other decorations are added. Therefore, longer tanks are much better than taller tanks.
