You’ve decided that you’d like to incorporate a custom aquarium into your Nassau County home or business. You know what kind of system you’d like and you’re pretty certain about the design, including the system (saltwater or freshwater), the design, the layout, and even the flora and fauna you’d like to incorporate. Now all you have to do is hire a contractor to design, build, and install your marine habitat. That’s easier said than done, however, as you want to make sure that you choose the right Brookville, NY custom aquarium contractor, and doing so can be an overwhelming task.
When it comes to housing a tank that is going to hold thousands of gallons of water and aquatic life in your Nassau County home or business, you really don’t want to leave anything to chance. That’s why it’s important to do your due diligence and consider a few prospective contractors rather than just hiring the first company you find. To help point you in the right direction, here’s a look at some key factors that you should consider when you’re looking for a company that specializes in custom aquariums in Brookville, NY.
You want to make sure that the company you choose has ample experience. A reputable Brookville, NY custom aquarium contractor will specialize in the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of all types of aquatic habitats. They will have years of experience serving both residential and commercial clients throughout Nassau County. The longer a contractor has been in business, the more experience they will have under their belt, and they’ll bring that experience to your project.
No matter how skilled and experienced a company may be, and no matter how many years they’ve been in business, you want to make sure that you hire someone who is fully insured. Even the most skilled craftsmen can make mistakes; they could damage your Nassau County property during the installation, or they could sustain an injury, for example.
In the event that something does go wrong, you don’t want to end up having to foot the bill. If the contractor isn’t insured, you could end up being hit with unexpected and exorbitant costs. That’s why it’s so important to make sure you hire a company that’s fully insured because if a mishap does occur, their insurance will cover the related expenses. When you’re interviewing prospective candidates, be sure to ask if you can see proof of their insurance, and check to confirm that their policies are valid. A reputable Brookville, NY custom aquarium specialist will be more than happy to share this information with you.

Materials and Equipment
The materials and equipment a custom aquarium is comprised of makes all the difference in the world. If the materials are subpar – they’re cheap and poorly made, for instance – chances are you’re going to be looking at issues down the road, as the quality of your aquatic display will suffer. The tank could spring a leak, or the filtration system may not be able to properly filter the water, for example; issues that could result in serious problems.
To avoid unnecessary complications and frustrations, ask about the type of equipment and materials each company uses. A credible Brookville, NY custom aquarium specialist will use high-end equipment, state-of-the-art technologies, and ethically and sustainably sourced materials. They will be happy to share the details about the equipment and materials that they use so that you’re better informed and so you can further investigate.
Finally, you should consider a custom aquarium installer’s reputation. Reputation says a lot, not only about the quality of the results the contractor will deliver but about the overall experience you can expect to have, as well. Designing, building, and installing an aquatic display is an in-depth, time-consuming process, and you and the contractor are going to need to work alongside one another. To find out about each company’s reputation, ask each of the candidates that you’re considering if they can furnish a list of references, and take the time to get in touch with at least a few of them. You can also search online for information about each company. Websites like the Better Business Bureau, Angie’s List, and Yelp compile reviews of professionals in all industries, including aquarium designers and installers. A credible Brookville, NY will have a long list of positive reviews and a glowing reputation.
Brookville is a village located within the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the village population was 3,465.
The geographic Village of Brookville was formed in two stages. When the village was incorporated in 1931, it consisted of a long, narrow tract of land that was centered along Cedar Swamp Road (Route 107). In the 1950s, the northern portion of the unincorporated area then known as Wheatley Hills was annexed and incorporated into the village, approximately doubling the village’s area to its present 2,650 acres (1,070 ha).
When the town of Oyster Bay purchased what is now Brookville from the Matinecocks in the mid-17th century, the area was known as Suco’s Wigwam. Most pioneers were English, many of them Quakers. They were soon joined by Dutch settlers from western Long Island, who called the surrounding area Wolver Hollow, apparently because wolves gathered at spring-fed Shoo Brook to drink. For most of the 19th century, the village was called Tappentown after a prominent family. Brookville became the preferred name after the Civil War and was used on 1873 maps.
Brookville’s two centuries as a farm and woodland backwater changed quickly in the early 20th century as wealthy New Yorkers built lavish mansions. By the mid-1920s, there were 22 estates, part of the emergence of Nassau’s North Shore Gold Coast. One was Broadhollow, the 108-acre (0.44 km2) spread of attorney-banker-diplomat Winthrop W. Aldrich, which had a 40-room manor house. The second owner of Broadhollow was Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt Jr., who was owner of the Belmont and Pimlico racetracks. Marjorie Merriweather Post, daughter of cereal creator Charles William Post, and her husband Edward Francis Hutton, the famous financier, built a lavish 70-room mansion on 178 acres (0.72 km2) called Hillwood.Learn more about Brookville.
The cost of a display aquarium varies depending on the material you choose, the size and shape of the tank, and more. A wide range of costs is about $750 to $7000. Costs increase with the size and height of the tank.
The best tanks are always large rectangular ones. Fish will live longer and healthier lives if they have plenty of water to swim in.
The cost of manufacturing and transporting acrylic is less than that of glass. However, a glass aquarium is still cheaper than an acrylic aquarium. The most popular aquariums are made of glass.
Most fish require room to move laterally (side-to-side), which is highly restricted by tall, narrow tanks. A tall aquarium leaves very little open space when plants and other decorations are added. Therefore, longer tanks are much better than taller tanks.
