Your Suffolk County home should be a place where you feel comfortable and relaxed; a space where you can really relax, unwind, and escape the stresses of daily life. As such, bringing in elements that create balance, calmness, and tranquility just makes sense. Of all the different features that can be incorporated into the design of your home to promote a sense of peacefulness and serenity, a custom aquarium is, by far, one of the most effective. This isn’t just a matter of opinion; it’s actually a scientific fact. Studies have found that aquariums can improve physical and mental well-being, as they can lower stress levels, reduce heart rate and blood pressure levels, create calming effects, and can even improve sleep patterns. In addition to the overall health benefits that fish tanks can provide, they’re just aesthetically pleasing and can enhance the visual appeal of a home’s interior.
Whether you want to create a more soothing environment, you’d like to experience the numerous benefits that an aquatic environment can provide, or you just like marine flora and fauna, if you want to get the most out of the living habitat, rather than going for a pre-fabricated set-up, hiring a Bellport, NY custom aquarium company to design and install a tank for you is highly recommended. In order to maximize the benefits and ensure the best possible outcome, however, there are some key factors that should be taken into consideration before designing and installing a custom marine habitat. Below, you’ll find an overview of these factors.
Maintenance
One of the first and most crucial factors that should be taken into consideration before installing a custom aquarium in your Suffolk County home is maintenance. Underwater habitats are living environments and routine and proper maintenance is essential, not only to ensure the set-up continues to look good but more importantly, to ensure the health and safety of the aquatic animals and plants that reside within it. It’s important to note, however, that maintaining a professionally designed marine display can be complex and requires a lot of time, effort, and energy. For this reason, taking maintenance requirements into consideration before you have your tank designed and installed is highly recommended.
Consider how you’re going to upkeep the display; for example, are you going to do it yourself, or do you intend on hiring a professional? If you intend on doing it on your own, consider how often and what type of maintenance needs to be done, and what the process entails. If you are planning on professional maintenance, consider working with a Bellport, NY custom aquarium designer and installer that also specializes in maintenance that you can hire to perform upkeep.

Freshwater or Saltwater
It’s also important to consider whether you want a freshwater or saltwater custom aquarium. There are distinct differences between saltwater and freshwater marine habitats, the most obvious one being the type of water; the former uses a saltwater system while the latter employs a freshwater system. Another obvious difference is the type of aquatic animals and plants. Saltwater fauna and flora is much more exotic in that there’s more variety, it’s more colorful, and it’s more unique; however, on the downside, the flora and fauna tend to be more delicate and both the living organisms, the water, and the tank itself requires more care. Freshwater animal and plant life, though it can also be unique and beautiful, it usually isn’t as vibrant and diverse; however, freshwater species are hardier and requires much less maintenance than their saltwater counterparts.
It’s important to consider what type of tank you would like, as the decision will directly influence the level of maintenance the setup requires, as well as the cost of the design, installation, and maintenance. While the idea of having a custom tank that resembles a mini Great Barrier Reef in your Suffolk County home might be appealing, if you want to keep costs down and want a system that’s less demanding, a saltwater tank might be a better choice.
The Cost
Another key factor to consider before having a custom aquarium designed and installed in your Suffolk County home is the cost. There are several elements that will impact the cost, such as the type (saltwater or freshwater) of the tank, the size and shape of the tank, the type and the amount of marine animals and plants, and the materials that the tank will be made of (glass or acrylic).
As mentioned above, saltwater tanks tend to be more expensive, not only because of the setup but also because of the maintenance requirements. Additionally, acrylic tanks tend to be more costly than glass tanks, as do larger and more unique designs that are more demanding in terms of care. Custom marine habitats can vary widely in price. It’s important to set a budget before you begin the process so that you can avoid spending more than you can comfortably afford. A reputable Bellport, NY custom aquarium company will work within your parameters and will deliver a quality product that speaks to your taste and suits your needs without going over your budget.
Bellport is a village in the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, on the South Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 2,084 at the 2010 census.
The land that is now Bellport was purchased along with what is now the hamlet of Brookhaven (then called Fireplace Neck) and western South Haven from the Unkechaug Indians in 1664 by settlers from nearby Setauket, who were attracted by the plentiful harvests of salt hay. The part that became Bellport was named Occumbomock Neck. Jonathan Rose was the first permanent settler in the 1680s, and by 1720 the Rose family owned much of Occumbomock Neck. In 1829, Captain Thomas Bell, a Scottish immigrant, bought land there. He sold sections of it, and by 1843 the village had 30 dwellings and 200 inhabitants. He changed the name to Bell-Port (now Bellport), envisioning a seaport, since Bellport was very close to the Old Inlet, a breach in the barrier island Fire Island, which gave Bellport easy access to the open ocean. With Colonel William Howell, Bell built a dock and a road to the dock. But the breach healed over, and Bellport instead became a tourist attraction, with wealthy visitors coming by railroad and then coach from New York City. Although all seven hotels eventually closed, the last in the 1950s, Bellport remained associated with wealthy New Yorkers, who eventually established year-round residences. After World War II, nearby Camp Upton was converted into Brookhaven National Laboratory, bringing in more, highly educated, year-round residents.
Bellport was incorporated as a village in 1910. On July 4, 1980, the Bellport Academy and Bellport Village Historic District were listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
On March 8, 1963, Bellport High School burned down. No one was killed, but 40 students and teachers were hospitalized. The replacement school was built in Brookhaven, but is still called Bellport High School.
Learn more about Bellport. The cost of a display aquarium varies depending on the material you choose, the size and shape of the tank, and more. A wide range of costs is about $750 to $7000. Costs increase with the size and height of the tank.
The best tanks are always large rectangular ones. Fish will live longer and healthier lives if they have plenty of water to swim in.
The cost of manufacturing and transporting acrylic is less than that of glass. However, a glass aquarium is still cheaper than an acrylic aquarium. The most popular aquariums are made of glass.
Most fish require room to move laterally (side-to-side), which is highly restricted by tall, narrow tanks. A tall aquarium leaves very little open space when plants and other decorations are added. Therefore, longer tanks are much better than taller tanks.
