3 Unique Aquarium Design Ideas for Your Mineola, NY Home

Did you know that nearly 15 million American households own fish? It’s true! Given the fact that aquarium design is a fun and interesting way to add visual interest to a home, combined with the therapeutic benefits (they’re calming and have been found to reduce stress levels), it’s easy to see why so many people have fish tanks.

If you’ve been thinking about bringing fish into your Nassau County home, rather than going with a run-of-the-mill, do-it-yourself pet store fish tank, if you really want to make a bold statement, consider having a professional Mineola, NY aquarium service create and install a custom aquatic habitat for you instead.

Here are some unique and amazing aquarium design ideas that a professional can create that will be sure to delight.

A Bathtub Aquarium

No, we don’t mean turning your bathtub into a fish tank (though it’s certainly possible and would be neat if you have an antique or unusual tub that you don’t intend on using); rather, by a bathtub aquarium, we mean having a tank installed near your tub. A Mineola, NY aquarium service can design and install an oversized – or even a floor-to-ceiling tank – on the wall across from your bathtub. Watching colorful aquarium fish swim around and hearing the bubbling of the tank while you’re soaking in warm water will certainly take the relaxation factor that taking a bath provides up a notch.

A Headboard Aquarium

Aquarium watching has been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure levels, and create a calming effect; all factors that can help you get a better night of sleep. Sure, setting up a standard fish tank in your Nassau County bedroom would be beneficial, but imagine the effect if your headboard was the tank? A professional Mineola, NY aquarium service can install a tank in the wall above the head of your bed and fill it with vibrant fish, coral, and aquatic plants, and illuminate it with a blue, purple, or black light. Flank the tank with custom, built-in shelving, and this unique aquarium design and you’ll have a functional and beautiful piece of living furniture that will be sure to make your bedroom more inviting, and that will create a calming sleep environment.

An Aquarium Table

Glass-top tables aren’t unusual; however, rather than a wood or metal base, make a real statement with a fish tank! With this type of aquarium design, the options are virtually limitless. Experienced and talented Mineola, NY aquarium service experts can turn fish tanks of all shapes and sizes into a table base. When topped with a thick piece of glass, you’ll have a 360-degree view of the aquarium fish, aquatic flora, and decorative elements in the tank. A coffee table, a side table, a dining table; no matter the type, the style, or how it’s used, an aquarium table will surely add visual appeal to your Nassau County home, and will undoubtedly serve as a conversation piece.

Mineola is a village in and the county seat of Nassau County, Long Island, New York, United States. The population was 18,799 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from an Algonquin Chief, Miniolagamika, which means “pleasant village”.

The central, flat, grassy part of Long Island was originally named “Hempstead Plains”. In the 19th century, various communities were started. One of them was called “Hempstead Branch”, and finally, “Mineola”.

Long Island was part of Henry Hudson’s original claim in the name of the Dutch East India Company dating as far back as 1609. In the 18th century, the Dutch and English settlers worked to clear farmland to start their life on the Hempstead Plains. It was in 1858 when this land was named after an Algonquin Indian Chief, Miniolagamika meaning, “Pleasant Village”. The name was later shortened and altered to “Mineola”.

From about 1787 until the 1870s, the area was the county seat for Queens County, in a section then known as Clowesville, just outside the present village boundaries. The western portion of Queens became a borough of New York City in 1898, and in 1899 Nassau County was formed from the part of Queens that did not so consolidate. Voters selected Mineola (in the Town of North Hempstead) to be the county seat for the new county of Nassau in November 1898(before Mineola incorporated as a village in 1906 and set its boundaries), winning out over Hicksville and Hempstead. The Garden City Company (founded in 1893 by the heirs of Alexander Turney Stewart)donated four acres of land for the county buildings just south of the Mineola train station and the present day Village of Mineola, in the Town of Hempstead.

You should perform a partial water change in your fish tank around once every two to three weeks, or more often if you have a lot of fish. If you have to change all of the water in your fish tank completely (a full water change), only do it when it is absolutely necessary.

Glass tanks typically last between 15 and 20 years if they are made of quality materials. A high-end glass tank can last more than 25 years if properly maintained.

You should vacuum your aquarium regularly, whether once a week or once every other week, as part of a good maintenance routine. Ensure that all your decor is removed before vacuuming.

You can change water as often as you like if you dechlorinate properly and keep the temperature constant. Water may be changed daily by professional fish breeders to remove excess food and promote maximum growth.
